Introduction

A short prologue before you begin

Bakel was a passion in my mind always, the beauty and charm of the fort always attracted me towards it. Long after my child hood when i became acquainted with the world wide web it turned to be an ambition to create a website on Bakel Fort to introduce its unrevealed beauty to the world. When it started I couldn't help looking at the other attractions of the kasaragod district which were one day called as the "hidden surprises of north malabar", by one of my north Indian friend. This friend of mine came to the God's own land to spend his vacation in some of the well known place in the south and came to Kasaragod just to pay a visit to my place. Once we explore the district we will know that there is something unique of it's own that's absent in many other places we have visited.

The government of Kerala has decided to develop Bakel into a mega tourism project utilising the vast scope of tourism in this area. The whole district of Kasaragod is now entering in to the world tourist map through the glorious existance of the Bakel fort where tradition and beauty are blended in the right proportion. In the field of tourism the Kasaragod district is still an unexplored "New found land" with a fortune of natural beauty.

The Bakel fort that shine in the glare of it's historical background and unsurpasseble beauty is not the only gem of the district, of course we can treat it as the kohinoor among the other spectacular gems. Ranipuram Hill - a tough and beautiful hill with rare herbs and wild orchirds which is towards the east of the fort, Kottanchery hill which is a challenge for any one who crave for adventure tourism, other hills like "Posadikumba, Veeramalakkunnu also are worth seeing. Malik Dinar Juma Mosque - one among the oldest mosques of the entire country, Ananthapura Lake temple - the only lake temple of Kerala, The only Jaina Temple in North kerala, Malakkallu St.Mary's Church, Kalagramam at swarga developed by Prof. Puninchithaya - renowned artist of the district, etc are some of the remarkable tourist locations and pilgrim centres of Kasaragod district.

Kasaragod district is also blessed with the presence of two important spiritual centers Anandashrama and Nithyanandashrama., a center that provide peace and serenity to thousands of tormented minds visiting there from different corners of the world, which are situated in Kanhangad - the major town in the district just 16 kms south to the Bakel fort.

The district tourism promotion council has come forward with lot of developmental programmes and projects to high light this potential of the district giving an appropriate position for the district in the tourist map. This is some what a relieving news for the residents of the district like me.

As a humble support to the ventures of the authorities to introduce the Bakel Fort and the district before the world I submit this site before you expecting your blessings and supports to go ahead fruitfully.

Your comments and suggestions are the most precious appreciation for me to correct myself and make my site more perfect so I will be grateful if you kindly write your notes either in my guestbook or mail it to me directly.

...truly,
